DATES:
1. Sign-ups: Open February 1. End February 16, at midnight, Eastern time. There will be a separate post for sign-ups.
2. Assignments go out ASAP after that. It's hard to determine how long matching assignments will take since I have no clue how many people will sign up, but I'll do my best to have them out by Feb. 23 (and hopefully earlier).
3. Vids due May 5 at midnight, Eastern time.
4. Vids go live hopefully by May 12, or when everyone has a vid.
5. NOTE: Because this is a single-fandom exchange and not, I think, likely to be large, pinch hits may be hard to come by so please make sure you really want to do it when you sign up. That said, of course I realize life happens, so if you do sign up and something comes up to prevent you from completing your assignment, let me know ASAP so a pinch hitter can be found.
VID REQUIREMENTS:
1. The vid you make must be at least one minute. It can, of course, be longer.
2. You must vid a character or character combo contained in your recipient's request. You may match on several characters or character combos. You do not have to vid the character or character combo you matched on. If you match on Sarah, but they also requested Cameron, you can vid Cameron
3. Interpretations vary, and that's cool, but the focus of your vid should match one of your recipient's requests. If they request Cameron and John, you may include other characters too, but you should vid something that generally focuses on those two characters. If they request Weaver, you may include lots of other characters she interacts with, but the focus of your vid should be Weaver. And so on. Obviously this can't be policed, but please adhere to the spirit of your recipient's requests!
4. No crossovers, unless the recipient explicitly says in their optional details that they would be okay with that.
REQUESTS:
1. You must request between THREE and SIX characters/character combinations.
2. AT LEAST TWO of your requests must include only characters from the "main character" list. For example: 1) any individual "main character" meets this requirement; 2) Weaver and Ellison meets this requirement, because they are both from the "main" list; 3) Sarah and Kyle does NOT meet this requirement, because Kyle is not from the "main" list. This is to make sure you are requesting some things your vidder will fairly easily have enough footage to make.
3. Your other requests (beyond the two required "main" requests) may include ANY OTHER CHARACTERS, regardless of whether they appeared in multiple episodes or only one. (For example, Felicia Burnett from "The Good Wound," or the unnamed Latina character from multiple episodes, or Derek and Kyle, or Sarah and Kyle, or Savannah. Etc.)
Main character list:
Sarah
John
Cameron
Ellison
Weaver
Derek
Jesse
Riley
(Yes, this is somewhat arbitrary, but hopefully there is plenty of flexibility.)
For example, one person's requests might be: 1) Sarah, 2) Jesse, 3) Derek and Kyle, 4) Terissa Dyson, 5) Sarah and John, 6) Weaver, Ellison, John Henry & Savannah
4. "Ensemble" is a valid request, but if you request this, try to include some optional details giving some more guidance to your vidder about your likes, preferences, etc., so your vidder will have something to go on if they need it.
5. Optional details: There will be a space in the sign up form for optional details. This includes music suggestions, particular aspects of a character or relationship that you like, particular parts of a character's story you like, particular themes in the show you like or don't (i.e. "I love the robots and technology themes of the show," or "I really do/don't like the religious symbolism the show uses"), etc. You may also include information that just doesn't fit in the sign-up form, for example, that you love gen more than shippy, or shippy more than gen, or that anything about the Family Weaver (or Team Connor!) delights you or that you just love all the female characters. You may put these details directly in your sign up, or you can include a link to a post in your journal where you will give more details. This is similar to a "Dear writer/vidder" letter that many exchanges have. (You don't have to write the post by sign-ups; you can make a placeholder post in your journal, link to that post in your sign up, and edit the post by March 2 to fill in your details). Your vidder is not required to adhere to these details but it will give them more guidance if they want it.
OFFERS:
1. You must offer at least THREE characters or character combos with the same "main character" rule: at least two must be from the "main character" list.
2. You can make unlimited offers. "Ensemble" is a valid offer. "Any" is a valid offer, if you are willing to vid any character or character combo. You can also offer "Any except [a caveat]" within reasonable limits (for example, "Any except single-episode characters", or "Any except [one character you'd rather not vid]. But please don't say "Any except [and then list ten characters]). ETA: Of course, if you offer "Any," that fulfills your minimum offering requirements! Though if there's something more specific you'd rather vid, you can also list more specific offers, along with offering "Any". /ETA
Offers and requests will be in public comments, partly because I think seeing what is requested will help vidders think of what to offer.
You can edit your offers or requests if you need to before the sign-up deadline, but please note that you have done so in your new comment. Please don't edit for typos. Only edit if you are actually changing an offer or request.
SUBMITTING INSTRUCTIONS:
HERE is some preliminary info about submitting. Vids will be posted anonymously. One week after the vids go live, vidder names will be revealed.
TREATS:
Treats will be allowed! A treat is an extra vid you make for anyone who's signed up for the exchange based on their requests. It can be a second vid for your recipient or a vid for anyone else. Treats DO NOT replace your assigned vid; they are optional extras. Treats should also be at least a minute long. You do not have to be signed up for the exchange to make treats. ETA: Treats will be included as long as they are received when the vids go live (which will hopefully be May 12, but may be later if we are waiting on last-minute assignments).
If you're not on Dreamwidth
I will not be mirroring this community on Livejournal or Tumblr or any other service, mainly for my own organization and efficiency. But you do NOT have to have a Dreamwidth account to participate.
This is the RSS feed for the comm: http://tightpresent.dreamwidth.org/data/rss if you want to keep up with the posts on another platform such as LJ (I don't have a paid account on LJ, so I can't create the LJ feed for you).
You will be able to comment anonymously to sign up (as long as you include a name and contact info).
I will determine at a later date whether we will have to have a LJ mirror for posting vids. But don't worry; we'll do whatever is necessary to get the vids posted.
